Kingi Taawhiao (the second king)
Kingi Taawhiao (the second king) was a leader in the Kingitanga Māori King movement which was set up so that the Māori people could have direct dialogue with Queen Victoria.The first king had great Rangatira of New Zealand, he was direct descendent of leaders of the Tainui and Te Arawa waka, however when he was chosen he was an elderly man, and died two years after becoming King. His son, Kingi Taawhiao was crowned king after him.
